The Sunken Landmass
The Shattered Archipelago gets its name from the geological reality that the islands are the visible peaks of a submerged landmass that sank during a catastrophic event nobody has dated with certainty. What sank with it is one of the continent's persistent mysteries — underwater ruins visible from the surface in shallow areas suggest a civilization that was not small.
The submerged ruins are considered sacred by archipelago populations. Outside excavators are not permitted. The Fracture has attempted access twice. Both attempts ended badly.
Djinn Integration
Djinn integration on the archipelago is the result of several ancient agreements between island communities and elemental spirits. The terms of those agreements are maintained by oral tradition and have never been written down. This is deliberate — written records can be found. Oral tradition requires finding the right person and convincing them to share.
Several of the oldest known references to the Human Sovereign's existence were found in archipelago oral traditions — which Omega Star has been aware of for decades. The islands remember things the mainland has been trying to forget.
The Last Light
The southernmost island is called The Last Light. It is as far south as the Archipelago Council's authority reaches. What lies beyond it is ocean. Sailors who have gone further south to investigate return changed in ways they don't discuss.
Several islands have Fae populations that predate human settlement. The Archipelago Council's seven-island governance model manages inter-island disputes while leaving each island to govern itself — which is to say, the Council manages disputes that the oldest Fae populations allow to surface.
