The Living Scar
The Verdant Scar is what happens when a continent's history refuses to stay buried. Beneath the forest floor are the layered remains of at least four distinct civilizations that rose and fell in this exact location. Archaeologists who dig here rarely finish their work — not because of the Fae, though the Fae are genuinely dangerous, but because every excavation opens a new question that takes decades to answer.
Ancient battlefield craters are now filled with water. Rivers run through them. The forest has grown over everything but remembers nothing and forgets nothing simultaneously.
The Fae Courts
Fae courts in the deep forest are ancient, trickster-natured, and entirely indifferent to the politics of the surface world unless the surface world becomes their problem. They are old enough to remember the civilizations that failed here. They have not shared that memory with anyone who asked.
Fae from the Verdant Scar occasionally appear in Thornwall markets. Nobody asks questions. Commerce happens.
The Contested Governance
Three factions contest governance of the Verdant Scar: a Solarian-aligned provincial government, a noble werewolf coalition, and the independent city-state called Thornwall that has refused outside authority for two hundred years. None fully control it. The forest itself resists permanent occupation.
The Fracture has used the Verdant Scar as a transit route. The contested governance means no single authority is tracking movement through it. This makes it the most reliably invisible path between the continent's eastern and western regions.
